University of Minnesota Extension small grain specialist Jochum Wiersma says there hasn’t been much disease pressure in the spring wheat, but he is starting to see some Fusarium head blight. “Often, the disease comes in late during the grain fill period anyway. That doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll have substantial yield loss.” Wiersma also reminds growers to be on the lookout for saw-fly activity as the wheat gets closer to harvest.
