Three months ago, the eastern half of North Dakota was in a snow storm. In western part of the state, Hazen farmer John Weinand was planting barley and field peas. Weinand says the growing season has been okay for the crops. “We were dry in June, but in July we got three inches across the farm.” Barley is turning color. Peas could be an average to decent crop, around 50 bushels per acre. Winter wheat harvest will be starting soon. “In some areas there was winterkill, but overall it will likely be average.”
