There is a lot of standing water in the southern Red River Valley after heavy rains passed through early last week. FMC Retail Market Manager Sam Lockhart says the moisture and humidity has farmers thinking about fungicide applications. “Especially in sugarbeets, where they are starting to detect cercospora leaf spot.” The wet conditions are making spraying a challenge. Lockhart says the most important factor with fungicide application is to get it on before you see the disease. “Most of these fungicides, including Lucento or Topguard, have to be applied before you see the leaf spot. Once they’re in the field, they’re very tough to control.”
