Near Andover, South Dakota, John Horter says fields are still wet and crops are about three weeks behind. “We’ve been getting quite a bit of rain in the last week to 10 days. We’ve had more than two inches of rain in July already. It’s been tough going.” Further north around Coleharbor, North Dakota, farmer Paul Anderson says the crops could use some heat. “Wheat and lentils are coming along, progressing as they should,” says Anderson. “It’s been a good, cool year for the crops. The corn and sunflowers, like everywhere else, could heat.” John Brainard farms near Ada, Minnesota. He says conditions were just right before the rains. “Farmers are picky and we always want it just right. We’re close.”
