Canola acres are up in North Dakota this year. Northern Canola Growers Association Executive Director Barry Coleman says farmers planted a record amount of canola this spring. “USDA’s estimate is in-line with estimates we’re hearing from farmers in the field.” Coleman says the condition of the crop looks pretty good, but the crop condition rating is down from one year ago. “A lot of the dry areas got decent rains recently. Some farmers think the drought has ended, because they have excess moisture yet the crop is still behind.”
