Vogel Law Firm attorney Tami Norgard focused on land easements at the Great Plains Land Expo. “It’s important landowners understand what is comprised in the bundle of sticks or surface they own,” explains Norgard. “They could grant easements for a pipeline or an access road.” According to Norgard, there are many things to be aware of when granting easements to your property. “Insurance provisions, indemnification of the landowner so if someone builds a road across your property for access and they don’t maintain it and someone gets hurt, you’ll want an indemnification to protect yourself,” she says. “Many people focus on price and overlook other details that can cause future problems.”
