With the volatility and uncertainty in farm country, this is one year for the record books. Advance Trading agribusiness consultant Nathan Mangold says there are regional issues with the crops and he’s closely watching Friday’s USDA report. “USDA will likely over-estimate the amount of corn and soybean acres planted. When the survey went out the first half of June, many farmers were trying to make a decision,” says Mangold. “Most likely the trade will look for a resurvey taking place ahead of the August report to better help us understand how many acres did or didn’t get planted.” Mangold says there is lots of uncertainty with yield going into the fall too.
