The Agricultural Retailers Association says the recently passed disaster aid bill will harm agricultural retailers. ARA wants the USDA to delay the prevent planting date in affected states, but it isn’t likely to happen. ARA Director of Public Policy Hunter Carpenter said USDA received the ARA letter. “Considering the prevent plant date for much of the Corn Belt is June 5, I think that tells us it will be tough to change at this point. We haven’t heard directly back from USDA other than they’ve received the letter.” Bottom line, Carpenter says ARA can’t do much in the short-term to deal with challenges, but the association will be trying to fix this moving forward.
