President Donald Trump’s visit to Japan was largely ceremonial, filled with state dinners and a meeting with the new emperor. However, there was time to talk trade. Trump said he expects an announcement to be made later this summer. The administration is urging Japan to drop tariffs on U.S. farm products that would be comparable to the countries in the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Trump also said the U.S. is not ready for a trade deal with China, but it will happen sometime into the future. U.S. farmers are being targeted in the current trade dispute with China. “The American farmer are great patriots; they are unbelievable people and they are with me 100 percent.”
