In a letter submitted to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue Tuesday, local farm groups including the North Dakota Grain Growers Association, Northarvest Bean Growers Association and the North Dakota Corn Growers Association ask USDA for fair payment for all commodities. They want additional commodities to have a chance at assistance. They also provide feedback on payment limits and a payment formula. Read more about it in the letter. Jim Callan Associates CEO Jim Callan says the letter received a quick e-mail response from the USDA. “The agency said they’re taking a look at some of the things we put forth. Some of the suggestions we provided are similar to what other organizations have already weighed in on regarding a second Market Facilitation Program payment.” Callan couldn’t confirm Tuesday’s reports on the details of the trade aid, though he expects to know more information within the next week.
