The South Dakota Congressional delegation sent a letter to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue Thursday urging short-term economic relief for American agriculture producers. In the letter, the lawmakers express the need for trade aid that fairly and equitably addresses producer’s trade related losses across all commodities. They ask Perdue to consider allocating 2019 crop-year assistance based on a producer’s 2018 planted and considered acreage of each eligible crop. Also, that payment yield would be calculated based on the higher of the county average yield for the county in which the land is physically located or Actual Production History in crop insurance.
