President Donald Trump was active on Twitter this weekend, saying the negotiations with China are right where he wants them to be. In Trump’s words, the government will match or better the money that China won’t be spending with U.S. farmers and distribute food to starving people around the world. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said he is working on a plan to boost domestic purchases of U.S. farm products and submit it to the president within “a few days to a couple of weeks.” A timeline for when commodities would be purchased was not announced.
