University of Minnesota Extension corn agronomist Jeff Coulter says the most important yield factor to think about this spring is stand establishment. “Keep in mind the key principles behind stand establishment for corn, planting into good soil conditions and avoid planting in soils that are too wet.” Coulter tells farmers not to be too concerned about planting date. “It’s planting into fit soils,” he says. “The worst thing we can do is planting into soil that’s too wet.”
