Bennett Consulting owner Matt Bennett says the lack of planting progress could open the door to prevent plant. “Where I’m at in central Illinois not only are we wet, but we have a wet two week forecast,” says Bennett. “If we stay wet another two weeks, people will start changing hybrids. Prevent plant could be an issue in the next three to four weeks.” Not much fertilizer or chemical was applied last fall. Bennett says there is not as much incentive to plant a crop if it stays wet. “There isn’t as much investment in the corn crop. We need to keep a close look at the weather in the next two to three weeks.”
