In the 23 major dairy producing states, milk production in March was nearly steady with year ago levels, down just one-tenth of one percent. Minnesota milk production increased less than one percent, while the number of milk cows in the state declined 4,000 head from last year. South Dakota milk production rose four percent with the state dairy herd increasing by 4,000 head. In the January-through-March time period, milk production in North Dakota declined two percent from last year.
