During his first state of the state address, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz focused on education, the gas tax and infrastructure. The importance of healthcare was also highlighted. Walz shared stories of Minnesotans, including Lake City, Minnesota farmer Debra Mills. “Even playing by the rules, she doesn’t have access to healthcare so she has the stress of going without healthcare; couple that with historically low milk prices and catastrophic weather events. This is a proud family who works hard and prides themselves on being tough. A day came where she had to make a tough decision. The decision she made took courage beyond what you could imagine. She picked up the phone and called a mental health counselor. Mills said I’m at wits end, what do I do? The good news is there was someone to pick up the phone and a plan to put in place. Mills started to come back from that.”
