U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer hopes a final trade deal between the U.S. and China will be finalized within a matter of weeks. Lighthizer told members of the Senate Finance Committee Tuesday if there’s an agreement between the U.S. and China, it will be very detailed and specific. Lighthizer said the two countries are going through very complicated issues. The trade representative also took the time to address concerns from agriculture. “The president is very focused on what’s happening in farm country,” said Lighthizer. “We’ve seen an unfortunate decline in farm income. It’s something that needs to be reversed. There has been retaliation that’s had negative effect in farm country, but no one has a bigger upside to opening up China than (U.S.) agriculture.”
