North Dakota House Agriculture Committee reviewed House Bill 1467 and others Thursday. The bill would move authority over grain and grain buyers to the agriculture commissioner. The bill passed out of committee. Committee chairman Dennis Johnson wants more inspectors out in the field. “I think the industry wants the oversight,” says Johnson. “It’s my goal to get this program strengthened up again.” Johnson also says cutbacks in previous sessions due to the downturn in the farm economy makes enforcement challenging.
