In the next two to three years, there could be a tighter supply of key molecules potato growers purchase. Potato growers should be prepared to talk to retailers on availability and prices. AMVAC Executive Vice-President Bob Trogele says this is happening because there are environmental challenges in China, where much of the global chemical actives are sourced for the U.S. “There are sites closing, but not only is this causing disruption, they have to do heavy investments into the environmental compliance and safety. That means costs are going up. Also, there are tariffs on inputs coming in.” Trogele explains AMVAC is dual sourcing their chemicals to help keep costs lower. The AMVAC executive addressed potato growers during the Potato Business Summit.
