Potatoes USA Chief Marketing Officer John Toaspern says frozen and dehydrated potatoes do have market access in China, but fresh potatoes do not. There’s hope this could change. “Just as we worked for many years to get in Japan, the first way we got in was with chipping potatoes. That is what we’re trying to do in China as well,” says Toaspern. “In fact, we had gotten very close to gaining access this spring, right before the trade wars broke out and that shut down negotiations. We’re hoping that as part of this new round of discussions is taking place, perhaps that can get dislodged as well and we can move forward in China.”
