During the National Sunflower Association Research Forum, growers are comparing notes about the 2018 crop. It was generally a good crop. “Especially, in Minnesota where there were some off-the-chart yields,” said John Sandbakken, executive director, National Sunflower Association. “Most people had 3,000 pound yields and some had on-farm averages of 3,500 pounds. The North Dakota crop was pretty good, considering the conditions.” With the difficult fall conditions, flowers are still standing in parts of North Dakota. Acres were down in 2018 and Sandbakken expects the end-users to aggressively seek acres for this year.
