Over the weekend, former representative Kristi Noem was sworn in as the 33rd governor of South Dakota. One of the first priorities as governor will be to put forward a budget. In addition, Noem will give the State of State Address tomorrow, and agriculture will be a component. “We need to make sure the state is focused on keeping it viable,” says Noem. Right now, agriculture is in a challenging situation with depressed commodity prices and ongoing trade difficulties. Being a life-long farmer and rancher, Noem is working to make sure South Dakota’s number one industry stays strong. “Bringing in value-added opportunities create another market closer to home. It also provides opportunities to utilize different types of practices on their farms and make every single acre productive moving forward.”
