The Senate has confirmed the nominations of Patrick Fuchs and Martin Oberman to serve on the Surface Transportation Board. Fuchs has been on the staff of the Senate Commerce Committee since January 2015. Oberman previously chaired a commuter rail service in Chicago. The Senate did not act on the nomination of Michelle Schultz to the STB, which was opposed by New York Senator Chuck Schumer. Schultz is deputy general counsel for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. The STB provides regulatory oversight for the freight rail system.
