After taking office, Brazil’s new leader Jair Bolsonaro issued numerous presidential decrees. One would cut a planned increase in the minimum wage, which was sought by the agriculture industry. Another plan would give the agriculture ministry control over decisions relating to the land reserved for Brazil’s indigenous people. That proposal is designed to soften the land battle between farmers and the tribes.
