The Grain Foods Foundation is preparing a proposal for USDA to create a new checkoff program. With this program, millers and bakers will collectively pay 16 cents per hundredweight on breadbasket products, like bread, bagels and buns. The money raised will be used for research and promotion to highlight the healthy benefits of bread. Ultimately, the millers and bakers involved in this project want to reverse the downward trend in sales.
