The North Dakota Legislature is hitting the ground running. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Dennis Johnson says the Agriculture Department and commodity groups will meet with his committee early in the session. Farm groups want to revisit the posting or ‘no trespass’ issue. Attempts were made during the last session, but Johnson says there has been widespread opposition from the sportsmen groups. “At the end of the day, I honestly couldn’t guess if we’ll see something like that or not. We’ve talked about it, but nobody has moved forward to sponsor legislation like that.” There has been recent controversy with a roving grain buyer going broke and not paying his farmer-customers for their crop. Johnson expects grain trading regulation to be addressed in this session.
