With the new farm bill, the Margin Protection Program is being replaced by Dairy Margin Coverage. Premium levels are reduced and coverage levels increase to $9.50 per hundredweight. There are also discounts for consistent use of the program. University of Minnesota Extension dairy economist Marin Bozic says this provision will help dairy farmers. “If I was a dairy producer, I would not think twice about going with $9.50 and I would probably commit to the next five years.” Bozic was part of a webinar hosted by the Minnesota Milk Producers Association to educate farmers about the new program.
