At the half-way point of marketing season, Northern Plains Potato Growers Association Marketing and Communications Director Ted Kreis says prices for the fresh potato crop are holding steady, but there is room for improvement. “We have one million less hundredweight than last year, but other fresh potato growing areas like Wisconsin and Quebec were hit hard during the October cold patch.” The quality of this year’s crop is excellent. “We are on cruise control right now,” says Kreis. “We had two to three years where there were problems, but we hope the rest of the year goes as well as the first half.”
