On December 5, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum will announce the Executive State Budget for 2019 through 2021. The budget will include agriculture research funding priorities for the State Board of Agricultural Research and Education (SBARE). “Come January, the legislature will weigh in on the priorities and make adjustments to the budget, says NDSU Extension Interim Director Greg Lardy. SBARE’s priorities for the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station include funding for the agribiome initiative, precision agriculture, enhancing research capacity, capital improvement requests and more. According to Lardy, investments in ag research yield a 40:1 cost benefit. “When you look at investing several million dollars in research over time, that results in some huge benefits.” Lardy, along with SBARE Chairman Keith Peltier, provided an update Tuesday at the 2018 Northern Ag Expo.
