As Northern Plains farmers wrap up harvest, the focus shifts to weed management for the year ahead. Palmer amaranth is now in North Dakota. That means farmers need to pay closer attention to what’s in their fields. WinField United agronomist Jason Hanson says scouting for weeds is required later into the season. “Farmers should have a good in-season weed management plan,” says Hanson. Herbicides can help manage tough weeds and so can crop rotations. “Farmers may want to consider planting a cover crop, implementing wheat and canola into their rotation.”
