North Dakota ranchers in Eddy, Foster, Nelson, Bottineau, McHenry, Renville, Ward and Wells Counties may apply for USDA’s Livestock Forage Disaster Program. Drought ratings in these counties triggered eligibility requirements for the program. Brad Olson, an agricultural program specialist with the North Dakota Farm Service Agency, says ranchers must own, lease or rent the livestock or pasture. “They must file an acreage report on that grazing land. The deadline to do that is November 15.” Ranchers have shown interest in the program, with payment rates for three months ranging from 45 to 50 dollars per head. Olson encourages those interested in applying to discuss requirements with their local FSA office. The deadline for application is January 30, 2019.
