The members of the Ashby Farmers Cooperative Elevator filed a civil complaint against their former general manager Jerry (Jerome) Hennessey and his wife Becky. Members also approved the liquidation of the co-op and authorized the board to dispose of all of the property. Fergus Falls attorney Erik Ahlgren says the goal is to work out the terms of a sale to the Wheaton Dumont Co-Op Elevator. “In the meantime, we entered into this lease so we could get the elevator back up and running to help at harvest.” Ahlgren tells RRFN the cooperative’s equity is wiped out and cannot be returned to members. The Wheaton Dumont Co-Op Elevator won’t take on the current debt. This is an asset purchase, meaning the debt owed won’t be repaid. Ahlgren says they hope to work out all of the issues by the end of the year.
