Tanner Johnson, President, First International Bank and Trust-Rugby, North Dakota location, says farmers are pleasantly surprised with the soybeans at harvest. “Generally, I think we’re going to be ok. We just have to look into the New Year with optimism and caution.” In preparation for loan renewal season, Johnson tells farmers to be straight-forward when they meet with their banker. “Be honest and upfront with your lender. I think that’s the biggest thing borrowers can do. Don’t try to hide anything. That’ll hurt you at the end of the day. If you didn’t have a very good year, you’re probably not the only one in that boat.”
