Bayer reports second quarter net income of $923 million, a decline of 35 percent from one year ago. Sales were up nearly nine percent in the quarter, driven primarily from the crop science business. Bayer CropScience reports sales of $3.5 billion. The 21 percent increase in sales was supported by the company’s acquisition of Monsanto. Sales have been particularly strong for fungicides with that business up 48 percent from one year ago. Soybean seed and trait sales and insecticide sales are up 37 percent. The corn seed and traits business was flat.
