North Dakota’s entire congressional delegation is on the conference committee. Senator Heidi Heitkamp thinks farm bill discussions are going well. “Everybody’s going to posture pretty much in the beginning. I think they’ve had a good meeting to start out with the principles, the chairs and ranking members. We’re getting ongoing reports. We’re getting ready to kind of lay down our marker and maybe put some things on the table that could help mitigate some of the damage being done in the trade war. We’re looking at this as an opportunity to educate about what’s happening with our markets as well.” Heitkamp says both versions of the farm bills have strong crop insurance provisions. There will be amendments made to increase reference prices in the commodity title.
