Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Deputy Agriculture Secretary Stephen Censky were in Fargo Thursday, where they met with industry stakeholders and participated in a townhall with several agricultural leaders. In opening remarks, Ross said President Trump’s intention with trade and China is to level the playing field for America’s farmers and ranchers, not to be in the tariff business. Ross went on to say this is a one-time fight that the U.S. must win. ”The end-game is much better market access. We just hope it won’t be painful getting from here to there.” Ross said agriculture was unfairly targeted to pressure the Trump Administration. Censky also recognized the importance of trade to North Dakota and American agriculture. He told the townhall crowd details of USDA’s Farmer Aid Program are expected to be released early this week.
