The Northern Canola Growers are asking North Dakota’s Congressional Delegation to be included in the $12 billion aid package due to retaliatory tariffs. Executive Director Barry Coleman says even though canola is not directly a tariff target, canola prices are tied to soybeans. “We’ve heard some commodities that had tariffs imposed on them were commodities that were made eligible and while it is true that a tariff has not been imposed on canola by any major importing countries, it doesn’t mean that canola growers in our region haven’t seen severe negative effects to their bottom lines as a result of this drop in canola prices.” Coleman says the trade impact will vary across the region.
