Land O’ Lakes reported quarterly net sales of $4.2 billion, an increase from last year’s second quarter sales of $3.7 billion. Net earnings are $67.2 million in the second quarter, a decrease from last year’s $113 million. CEO Beth Ford says the cooperative is positioned to make steady progress despite the headwinds in the agriculture economy. There’s growth in Land O’ Lakes crop protection volumes, but year-to-date earnings in crop inputs declined from late plantings. Dairy food earnings are higher with an improved product mix in the branded butter portfolio. Animal nutrition business earnings were flat compared with last year.
