One month ago, National Corn Growers Association President Kevin Skunes joined a group of eight North Dakota farmers in a meeting at the White House with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to talk trade. A compensation program wasn’t addressed at that meeting, but Skunes still feels strongly farmers still have to vote with their checkbooks at some point in the trade discussions. “We have a lot of tariffs that are going on. If we’re going to try and fix this, it’s going to be quite a task.” Skunes was part of a group of farmers that met with Vice President Mike Pence in Grand Forks this past week and trade was part of that conversation.
