INTL FCStone Chief Commodities Economist Arlan Suderman says there may be a record supply of meat in storage, but USDA’s cold storage report shows strong demand. “We had a bigger draw down in particularly the beef than I think was what was anticipated. As we are increasing the supply of beef and pork, demand is perhaps stronger than what we anticipated. I know that export demand has been very impressive for beef. I was a little bit discouraged or have been a little bit discouraged in recent weeks on pork, but this data would suggest maybe pork demand is stronger than what I thought as well.” The domestic and export demand is using what’s being produced.
