Members of the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association spent time walking the halls of Congress this past week, meeting with lawmakers about the farm bill. Kim Halvorson, who is part of the MTGA executive committee, says the 2016 avian influenza outbreak is still top-of-mind. “We’re trying to get out ahead of that with animal pest and prevention disaster prevention, embedding money into the farm bill for surveillance.” In addition to the farm bill, Halvorson sees trade and labor as priority issues for the turkey industry. Farm Bill Focus is sponsored, in part, by the AgCountry Farm Credit Services.
