Haugen Combining owner Chad Haugen is harvesting winter wheat near Phillip, South Dakota. It’s a much better scenario than last year’s harvest. “This year, it looks like anywhere from 35 to 50 bushels per acre. Some of proteins have been pretty decent this year. The elevators aren’t paying any protein premiums at this time, but we did do one quarter that was low protein. It yielded very high.” Haugen plans to harvest in the area for another two weeks and they’ll travel to Dupree, South Dakota.
