Two Minnesota pig farmers, Randy Spronk of Edgerton and John Schwartz of Sleepy Eye, participated in the Latin American Product Showcase in the Dominican Republic. Spronk said these buyers are looking for whole muscle cuts. “We were on a market tour and there was whole bone-in loins from the U.S. They put that product in a net, smoke it and slice it think. This is a huge opportunity in South America and Central America.” This was the eighth year for the U.S. Meat Export Federation event. Sixty people were at that first showcase. This year, more than 800 buyers and sellers are participated.
