There has been some bad blood between House Agriculture Committee Chairman Michael Conaway and Ranking Member Collin Peterson in recent months. Conaway told the Red River Farm Network he is confident they can put that in the rearview mirror and move forward. “I think Collin will be back to being the Collin we’ve known from the past once he’s able to get back and engage in a meaningful way, which is his normal way of working. That’s behind us now and now we need to a bill that we can get a yes on.” The Senate is expected to vote on its farm bill before the July 4 recess. Conaway says that means the legislation should be in place when the current law expires at the end of September. “There is an elegance to having the certainty of the next farm years done on time that is really priceless.” Thanks to the North Dakota Soybean Growers Association for co-sponsoring RRFN’s Farm Bill Focus series.
