The 2018 canola crop is up and out of the ground. Bayer CropScience field representative Kristie Sundeen says there were some emergence issues in northern North Dakota due to crusting from hail and rain. “When you throw flea beetles into the mix, there were a few areas where replanting occurred. Now, most farmers have started spraying.” Sundeen reminds farmers that small weeds are the easiest weeds to kill. “If they’re on the late side of the weeds, farmers should up the tank mix rate to 29 fluid ounces. Use three pounds of Ammonium Sulfate with 15-to-20 gallons of water,” says Sundeen. “Water is the cheapest thing in the tank, and Liberty is a contact herbicide. Farmers really need to stay with those gallons to get good coverage.”
