Midwest Market Solutions President Brian Hoops says big picture, Mexico’s tariffs are part of a negotiations ploy and these tariffs can be removed as quickly as they can put back on. “Mexico’s trying to do some posturing here. They are heavily dependent upon U.S. pork, so it could be for the short term they may buy a little less, but I think once those tariffs get lifted and once the agreement gets worked out, they’re going to be an aggressive buyer again. Overall, they’re going to end up buying as much as they normally would or even possibly more.” Hoops thinks at some point the tariffs will be lifted. “It’s certainly negative to the hog markets in the short-term.”
