The USDA is surveying farmers to find out how many acres of corn and soybeans actually got planted this spring. National Ag Statistics Service’s Lance Honig says about 100,000 farmers are currently being surveyed. “Because we’re now at a point where most of the planting is done. There are still some farmers out there planting, but even those that aren’t finished have a much better idea of exactly what they’re going to plant this year than they would have back at the beginning of March.” Hoenig says winter wheat growers are also being re-surveyed. The updated winter wheat report is scheduled for release June 12.
