Canola growers are being reminded to scout their canola fields for flea beetles. NDSU Extension Entomologist Jan Knodel says if you do find threshold levels of flea beetles you need to treat as quickly as possible. “You really need to watch out, because they can move quickly. I’ve seen them destroy a field in one day. So you easy get insecticide on it really quick.” Knodel says flea beetles are most active during hot weather. “They’re most active during the hot part of the day. So I would recommend scouting during the afternoon, during the sunny part of the day. Also, put insecticides on in the afternoon, if it’s not too windy.”
