It may be too early to be considering a farm bill extension, but House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Collin Peterson says a few issues need attention if the current bill is extended. “As part of that, we want to fix the dairy program because it doesn’t cost anything. The other thing we’re having the Congressional Budget Office look at is the cost of the one-year switch from ARC to PLC. What that would do, if we don’t have this bill done, is allow people to switch this next year to PLC, but just for one year until we get a bill done. We’re trying to see if we can get this done in an extension if it comes to that point.” A reconsideration for the farm bill has to be resolved. “What’s happened is a hell of a mess. I’m not sure they (Republicans) quite know how to get out of it.”
