One of the largest lenders in the country is urging Congress to support the current sugar program. CoBank sent a letter to members of the House Agriculture Committee, saying changes in the sugar program would “negatively impact” the farmers ability to repay loans. In addition, CoBank said proposed changes to the sugar program would send an economic shockwave through the communities dependent on beet and cane production.
